Handmade cheese from Victoria's high country.
David and Anne Brown founded Milawa Cheese Company in the historic Milawa Butter Factory in 1988. It was a brie-change which saw their move from Melbourne to Victoria’s high country, inspired by a desire to live in a smaller rural community where life was slower and somehow more real than city life. The duo, known to the locals as the “Bloody Upstarts”, set out to earn their crust by making delicious Australian farmhouse cheeses inspired by European methods.
Milawa are passionate about creating cheeses using traditional methods in a sustainable manner. All cheese is made, turned and washed by hand, led by head cheese maker Stephen Russell.
Keeping the business in the family, Ceridwen Brown has recently been appointed CEO and is taking the brand to the next level. Culminating 28 years of product development, Milawa still source their goats and cow’s milk locally.
